Asian Football Confederation Sets Stage for Continental Tournament

With the curtain setting on a glitzy ceremony at the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023 Final Draw, Asian Football Confederation (AFC) President Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa has officially launched the countdown to the highly anticipated sporting spectacle. The tournament, scheduled to kick off on June 16, 2023, will witness Asia's top footballing nations battle it out for continental supremacy.

Speaking at the event, President Al Khalifa highlighted the significance of the tournament as a showcase of the region's passion for the sport. He emphasized that the AFC Asian Cup provides a stage for players to excel and for nations to create lasting memories.

The draw ceremony, held in Doha, Qatar, attracted representatives from all 24 qualified teams. The participating nations were divided into six groups, with the hosts Qatar being drawn into Group A alongside Oman, Kuwait, and Iraq.

The tournament, to be played across 10 world-class stadiums in Qatar, will also serve as a qualifier for the 2024 Paris Olympics. The top four teams will automatically secure their spots in the Olympic Games, while the fifth-placed team will advance to an inter-confederation play-off.
